Our Story

AMWood started in 2016 as a continuation of 18 years of salvaging and repurposing antique wood.

At 18 years old, I was ready for a change from working as a farmhand. I called a cousin who owned a reclaimed wood business to see about getting hired. At the time, my plan was to work there for a few months before moving west in search of adventure. Long story short – I found the adventure I was looking for right here in Central Pennsylvania.

I was immediately captured by the excitement of reclaiming old barns and houses. I loved the process of finding an old building in disrepair, carefully deconstructing it, and turning its lumber into something new and beautiful. I loved the history and the stories each piece of antique wood had to offer. Thirteen years later, the adventure of reclaiming antique wood hadn’t gotten old for me. When an opportunity to start my own reclaimed wood business presented itself, I jumped at the chance. With the support of my wife Marlee (The “M” in the “AM”), we decided to buy a truck, trailer, and some denailing tools to get started. We worked out of a garage until we were able to build a shop that suited our expanding business.

The journey has not always been easy, but we are thankful for every moment we have been able to spend together building our business and rescuing historic wood from being discarded and forgotten. We are so thankful for all the family, friends, and customers who have helped us along the way, and we look forward to many more years of adventure here at AMWood!
